PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

Priest:

We have listened to the story of the Passion of the Lord. With sadness we look at the continued violence and sinfulness of our world. Christ’s final words from the cross were of forgiveness, so let us ask God to soften people’s hearts as we pray.

V

1. For Christian people everywhere (Pause)

At the beginning of this Holy Week, we pray for all our Christian brothers and sisters. May we follow the example of Jesus who emptied himself for us that we might learn to be of service to all.  Lord, hear us.

2.For for those who suffer for what they believe (Pause).

We pray for those in our world who, like Jesus, are unjustly persecuted. By our prayers and actions, may we be in solidarity with them who suffer for justice and truth.  Lord, hear us

3. For a sense of peace amidst suffering (Pause).

May we be granted the gift of inner peace when we experience pain at the hands of others. And may Christians everywhere support those who are suffering by our prayers and understanding love.  Lord, hear us.

4. For a fruitful observance of Holy Week (Pause)

May we use this Holy Week profitably for reflection and prayer; for renewal and repentance; for acts of charity; for worship and sharing.  Lord, hear us.

5. For the sick (Pause).

May the sick be well. PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

Priest:

“When I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to myself.” Let us pray with confidence to God, since his care for his people is without limit.

V

1. For a desire to live as God wants (Pause)

“I will be their God; they will be my people”, says the Lord. May the new covenant that God has written on our hearts increase our desire to live as God wants by the commandments planted deeply within us.  Lord, hear us.

2.For a deeper understanding of God’s purposes (Pause).

Jesus learned obedience through suffering and became the source of salvation for all. May we grow in accepting the mysterious purposes of God who brings resurrection out of suffering and death.  Lord, hear us

3. For a rich harvest among God’s people (Pause).

We believe that the death of a single grain of wheat can yield a rich harvest. May we so die to self and live for others that the world may turn from selfishness and enjoy a harvest of peace and justice.  Lord, hear us.

PPC Visit

Twelve members of the legion of Mary International will be in the Parish from 31^st March to 7^th April. They will be visiting homes and interacting with parishioners. They will arrive the Parish at about 6pm on Saturday 31^st March. Please make them welcome. We thank those who have offered to accommodate them. Can they come to the parish on Saturday evening to take their quests to their homes, please.

VGod so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may live. Let us now, confident in God’s love, pray for the world he loved.

1. For a deeper faith in God’s activity in the world (Pause)

God inspired Cyrus, King of Persia, to console the Jewish people in their time of exile. May we renew our faith in God’s saving presence in our world.  Lord, hear us.

2.For a greater awareness of God’s generous love (Pause).

We hope in God because God is faithful and we trust in God’s generous love that has saved us, in Christ. May we show forth God’s goodness in how we live and what we value.  Lord, hear us

VWe are all sanctuaries of God’s presence. Let us pray that people throughout the world will be treated with respect and understanding.

1. For a desire to seek God (Pause)

When people look for a God to pray to and to trust, may they find no other God than the Father, the Son and the Holy spirit to worship, to love and to serve. Lord, hear us.

2.For a desire to have faith (Pause).

When people for a faith to believe in, let them encounter you, Lord Jesus, listen to what you say and follow what you do.   Lord, hear us

3. For a desire to hope in God (Pause).

When people look for a reliable hope, let them discover your Word to inspire and to guide them.  Lord, hear us.

4. For a desire to love (Pause)

When people look for faithful love, let them discover you, Lord Jesus, alive in people, in their works and deeds.   Lord, hear us.

When people seek good health, let them fing comfort in the healing power of God. Letter from the Bishops

This weekend, we receive a letter from Archbishops Vincent Nichols and Peter Smith on behalf of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. It is a statement of our Catholic faith about marriage and issued in the light of the forthcoming consultation by the Government on changing the legal definition of marriage. In the light of this letter, you are asked to consider signing the Coalition for Marriage’s online petition which can be found at www.C4M.org.uk . It reads:

“I support the legal definition of marriage which is the voluntary union of life of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others. I oppose any attempt to redefine it.”

A more detailed leaflet will be issued after Easter by the Archbishops on the Government’s consultation itself. This will help Catholics make up their own response to the consultation. A copy of the letter is at the back of the Church. Take one, please.

V”With God on our side, who can be against us/” Strengthened by God’s Word and with great confidence, let call upon Him in prayer.

1. For courage to be people of faith (Pause)

Abraham is our father in faith. May his desire to obey God strengthen us in this time of Lent to new resolutions of trust in God’s faithfulness and love. Lord, hear us.

V”We have never seen anything like this.” God is our hope. He offers us forgiveness as soon as we turn back to him, provided we also forgive those who trespass against us. We turn to him now with our request.

1. For joy that our sins are forgiven (Pause)

God declares our sins are forgiven, refusing to recall our deeds in the past. May our joy in experiencing God’s forgiveness encourage us to avoid sin in our lives and to live by the commandments. Lord, hear us.

2.For those who are not aware of their sinfulness (Pause).

We pray for all those who are not aware of their sinfulness. May they repent and be converted and live with the Lord as his friends that he loves.  Lord, hear us

V”Be cured.” Jesus word of healing to the leper brings consolation to all of us. Let us call upon Jesus, who never refused to help, and ask him to help all those most in need in the world today.

1. For those on the margins of society (Pause)

We pray for those whom society rejects, especially in our country and community. May we be people of compassion reaching out to those whom society abandons. Lord, hear us.

2.For a desire to imitate Christ (Pause).

May we be followers of Jesus in how we live, careful to avoid hurting others by attitude that discriminate and language that offends.  Lord, hear us

3. For a desire to be healers in society (Pause).

Jesus is our model of acceptance, of tolerance and healing. Like him, may we be healers in society accepting people who are different from ourselves in language, culture and faith.  Lord, hear us.

4. For a desire to spread the good news (Pause)

All of us experience the healing love of God expressed in the care and concern of others. By what we profess and how we live, may we declare to others our faith in the good news of God’s love and acceptance for all people.   Lord, hear us.

V”I came to preach the good news.” We remember with gratitude all that God has done for us as we bring to his love the needs and concerns of the Church and of the world.

1. For God’s family (Pause)

We bring to his love the daily work of each member of Christ’s body; that in constant prayer we may learn God’s will and his way of doing things, till we work exclusively for his glory. Lord, hear us.

2.For forgiveness (Pause).

We bring to his love the mistakes, short-sightedness and arrogance of our world; that in Christ we may learn to respect one another and the treasures of the planet we inhabit.  Lord, hear us
